Tomar

Tomar is located on the banks of the River Nabão, and was conquered from the Moors by King D. Afonso Henriques. After this conquest, in 1159, the king ceded his lands to the Order of the Templars, as a form of gratitude for the effort made by the Knights of the Order, in maintaining and expanding the Christian Faith in Portuguese territory.
