The Peneda-Gerês National Park (PNPG) covers 22 parishes in the municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez, Melgaço, Montalegre, Ponte da Barca and Terras de Bouro. This Protected Area forms a group with the Spanish Natural Park of Baixa Limia - Xurés Mountains, constituting with it, since 1997, the Gerês-Xurés Transfrontier Park and the Biosphere Reserve with the same name.
